ROACH!!!!!

Ok...we've been working with bugs a lot lately.  Tyler and Rhea did this whole thing over them during the spring but Sunshine's still with them.  She loves them.  I bought them these 'life size & life like'  bugs from Borders (only 5.99 & it came with a book, dozen(?) bugs and a poster too!)  Anyways, there's all kinds of stuff..praying mantis, roach, beetle...can't remember the others because these have provided the most entertainment for me.

Last week Ben came home (it's 3:30ish AM) and I'm reading while lying in bed.  He's talking to me and suddenly this odd look comes over his face...he zeros in on my hip area like he can't figure out what he's seeing..I'm thinking...has it been that long?  He slowly 'stalks/sneaks up' toward the bed...I ask him "Whatcha' doin'?"  He doesn't answer but horror spreads over his face & I'm REALLY starting to think maybe I need to invest in some beauty products & a razor.  He reaches his hand out and snatches a giant cockroach from the bed!

He makes this odd noise and freezes..."It's fake!"

"What ARE you DOING?"

"I saw something...figured out it was a roach and I thought you'd totally freak out." (I really would FREAK out...and as an anti chemical person I'd be calling for the house to be tented and bombed with anything & everything.  I have limits to what I will exist with...ants..ok bring out the peppermint...lady bugs...bring good luck leave them alone...even spiders...catch & release...but a roach...Squish it!!! Kill IT!  or Let's MOVE!)  "I didn't know it was fake until I'd grabbed it."

"Wait...you grabbed what you thought was an actual Giant Cockroach?"  He shook his head yes.  "My hero!  But seriously gross Ben...I'd have had to just tell you to hurry and get out of bed 'cause I wouldn't touch any roach."  He sat it on the dresser.

Now...the next morning...it's about 11:30.  I went in to wake him up.  The bedroom windows were open & the fan was on (drowns out kiddy noise) so apparently the roach had been blown to the floor.  The dresser is right next to the door way so when it fell...it landed right in the middle of the walk area to leave the bedroom.

Tyler comes in and is talking to me and Ben, turns around & apparently he's watching his feet because all of a sudden he does this hop, jump, skip, shuffle.  At the same time he gives this little squeal...much like his Daddy's the night before.  I'm watching and have NO idea what's going on.  Ben's watching...he has no idea either what's going on.  We're just watching wondering what's going on.  He stops and leans over picking up the giant cockroach and gives this 'oops! I'm goofy' laugh and says, "I thought it was real!"

I lost it.  I laughed so hard my sides hurt.  Ben laughed & so did Tyler.  I told him about his Daddy and he goes..."I guess no one likes roaches huh?"  No bub...I don't know anyone that likes roaches.

So...wanna guess how many times that roach has shown up around the house?  And, let me tell you as someone who has been the target...they put it on the toothpaste the other night...your heart goes a mile a minute...I mean you'd think it was actually some kind of wild beast about to rip you to shreds.  And, yes...I too river danced backwards but my squeal was more girly than I thought it would be.  I guess I know where Rhea gets it after all!

I tried to find the set I had, but apparently it was clearanced out because it was the last one on the planet! :)  But these sets look a lot like what I have.  I HIGHLY recommend them for the scare factor alone!

Hey- I am friends with a "honey" on TOS Crew - is it the same Honey? I "met" her the same day I met you - so I thought I'd been having the same string of conversation. . . .She has a different blog layout though . . . I hadn't clicked onto your blog because I thought I was already subscribed. :) I stopped by today to tell you that your posts really helped my day today. I'm under a bit of personal attack, and they really helped lift and encourage. LOVED the news report and then read this post and I'm cracking up more.

  4. That's nothing...I spent a summer in Greece during college and we went to a town all the way in the South called Monemvasia. We decided to stay on the island because it was so cool--the room was a stone barrel vault that went into the hillside, with just a door onto the street. It was almost like a cave. The beds were stone platforms that rose up out of the floor, with a mattress on top.

Woke up in the middle of the night to find cockroaches everywhere--and these were half the size of your hand!!!

We discovered that there was a drainhole that led from the room directly into the street with no cover on either end to keep the crawlys out. We stuffed a sock in it, but the trauma of waking up with roaches all over my bed has never left me....

;) I do love reading comments. Plus, you never know if I'll send you a special something just because you left a comment. Yes, I know, but adult bribery is acceptable.
