Free lessons/ideas for Montessori & "Montessori Summers"

Every month the American Montessori Consulting folk send out newsletters.  You can sign up to have them delivered to your mailbox.  This month is a great Gardening Unit.  There's everything from wee ones to the big ol' monkeys.  English to Spanish to I want to say I saw something European (Russian?).

They always have something great going on & they even have everything archived so you can look through & see old ideas.  This winter's was really interesting & we did some Thanksgiving stuff too.  Sign up for the newsletter so you don't miss anything.  Oh yeah, the Gardening Unit is for into the summer too.

And, on that note...what do ya'll do during the summer?  Homeschoolers...do you school through the summer?  Teachers in school....I know I'll be using your blogs lack of posts to really glean through & plan out stuff for next year.

I was thinking we'd use this Summer as a way to really get to know the states.  There is so much information & I really know they're interested in all the places Ben went as a child.  I'm begging my MIL for pictures of their vacations to show Tyler, Rhea & Sunshine 1. how awesome our country is & 2. how funny their daddy & uncle looked. hehe!

But, how do you do it?  Do you close off the materials or do you allow more open play/work?  What do you do for summer?

  1. I usually use the summer to get my home in order. Organize classroom and school stuff. Get myself ready for next year. But then again, I've only been HSing for almost 3 years only. And this will be my 1st Montessori summer. I'll probably cover a few presentations here and there to catch up my 8 yo. But not too sure about it.

  3. My son is a little young for "school" (he's 9 months), but we are hoping to homeschool. I was just thinking yesterday about what our school year schedule would be like. Although I'm not sure that we will school through the summer, we will probably have a shorter summer break so that it's not as difficult to get back into the swing of things. That way we can also enjoy longer breaks through out the year as well!

I see that you are an organic gardener! I just planted my first garden tonight actually! I am SO excited to watch it grow. Hopefully it will! ; )

Summer we will take a lot more of ourwork outdoors to a blanet in the backyard, a lot more walks, and alot more park time now that it is pretty.

;) I do love reading comments. Plus, you never know if I'll send you a special something just because you left a comment. Yes, I know, but adult bribery is acceptable.
